Water conduit (aqueduct)

Do you enjoy hiking?

Treat yourself to a walk to the 'Wölferhölzli' woods south of Augusta Raurica. There, you can see an original section of the 6.5 km Roman water conduit (25 minutes walk from the theatre).

In Roman times:

In a wooded area just south of the motorway, you will encounter the Roman water conduit. It supplied the town with fresh water from the south via a tall aqueduct. The tunnel-like section is approximately 10 m long and it is possible to walk into a short segment of it, which provides a good insight into its complex construction. It is built similarly to the wastewater cloaca at the central baths. You can study a small section of this water conduit opposite the Roman Museum.
