Research

The canton Basel-Landschaft has made a point of designing Augusta Raurica to be not just a museum but also an attractive place for schools, students, culture enthusiasts and families to visit. Its former inhabitants left behind ruins and artefacts such as potsherds and coins. But what of the 10-15,000 people that lived here in the Roman period – how did they experience their town, their everyday lives, their surroundings? In order to answer these questions, researchers drafted relevant questions and research topics, and developed a research strategy, based upon which several research projects were launched. Researchers go in search of the past thus making the ancient witnesses talk.
