Looking back on an archaeologically rich year in 2025
The year 2025 once again brought numerous impressive archaeological finds and discoveries to light. Particularly noteworthy is a letter fibula in the shape of an ‘O’ with the inscription ‘Domina te amo alias derido’, which loosely translates as: ‘You're the boss! I love you. Infidelity? Ridiculous!’ Such fibulae with love inscriptions were popular gifts in Roman times and today provide a fascinating insight into personal relationships in antiquity.
In addition to these extraordinary individual finds, several important excavation projects were also successfully completed in 2025. In Augst, the large-scale excavation on Sichelenstrasse came to an end, having yielded a wealth of spectacular finds over the past three years. In Kaiseraugst, too, the excavation in Schürmatt was successfully completed. It is particularly noteworthy that this was the first excavation in the Augusta Raurica area to be fully documented digitally.
A selection of the most beautiful and impressive small finds from these archaeological excavations in Augst (BL) and Kaiseraugst (AG) are presented in our image gallery.
