Admission to the Roman festival is free for IV recipients and their accompanying person.

Parking

Parking spaces are available for you near the festival grounds: Google Maps.
The parking lot is located on a meadow. The walk to the festival grounds takes approx. 2 minutes.

Accessibility of the festival site

Information on the nature of the festival site can be found here.

The theatre is wheelchair accessible.
There are several wheelchair-accessible toilets on the site. Their location is marked on the festival map.

The Roman festival in sign language

Programme in DSGS (German-Swiss Sign Language)
Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 August 2026, 10.30 am – 4 pm

Itinerary:

  • 10.30 am: Treffpunkt 1 on the theatre forecourt
  • Group tour of the festival grounds. We’ll explore the theatre, experience Roman crafts and immerse ourselves in the world of the Romans.
  • Followed by free time to explore on your own and a lunch break
  • Sat 3.15 pm / Sun 3.00 pm: PANEM ET CIRCENSES: A grand spectacle in the theatre featuring gladiatorial combats and dances

Participation and Ticket

Participation in the DSGS programme is free of charge.
You’ll also need an admission ticket for the Roman festival. Admission is free for holders of an IV card. Please register here and buy your ticket

Good to know:

  • We’ll meet at Meeting Point 1 on the festival grounds. Please arrive about 20 minutes early to go through security at the entrance.
  • During the lunch break, you can organise your own lunch.
  • Please bring sun protection, as there are no shaded areas in the theatre.

With insieme Basel to the Roman festival

Head to the Roman festival with insieme Basel

The leisure centre run by insieme Basel is organising a guided tour of the Roman festival for people with disabilities on Saturday, 29 August 2026, from 11.15 am to 5.00 pm.

The programme is suitable for wheelchair users and will be accompanied and supervised by insieme staff.

Itinerary:

  • Around 11.15 am, we’ll meet at the wheelchair-accessible car park (see map)
  • From 11.15 am to 3.00 pm, we’ll explore the world of the Romans.
  • We’ll admire Roman crafts, sample delicious food and fine drinks, and learn about the Roman era.
  • Around 3.00 pm, we’ll watch the grand parade, known as the ‘Pompa’. Immediately afterwards, gladiators will battle for victory, accompanied by enchanting dances.
  • Around 5.00 pm, we’ll say our goodbyes to one another at the wheelchair-accessible car park.

Cost: Admission and participation are free for people with an IV card. Please bring ca. CHF 25 for a snack anyway. If you’d like, bring an extra ca. CHF 30 or so for a souvenir.

Please also bring sun protection, as there are no shaded areas in the theatre.
