The Roman Treaty – explained simply
More
Revision of the Roman Treaty – new momentum for the protection and development of Augusta Raurica.
The treaty was revised for the first time in 1998. The main focus was on adjusting the financial contributions made by the canton of Aargau to the canton of Basel-Landschaft.
A new edition of the Roman Treaty will come into force in 2026. It was drawn up to mark the 50th anniversary of the original Treaty. This new edition takes into account the current legal requirements in the contracting cantons and the current distribution of tasks, and ensures the long-term preservation and further development of the Roman site Augusta Raurica.
The most important points of the new edition:
The formal signing of the Treaty will take place in autumn 2025.
