The monumental bronze town model
The first highlight of Augusta Raurica is openly accessible in front of the museum: the largest bronze model of a Roman town ever made! Spread over 13 m2 and weighing 1.2 metric tons it gives visitors an unexpected impression of the size and grandeur of the former metropolis. Visitors can see – and touch – temples, theatres, elegant residential areas and tradesmen’s quarters including, of course, the associated infrastructure that the Romans were famous for.
