Making Roman ointments and tooth powder
2000 years of proven medicine: a practical course
Using medical sources from antiquity and the Middle Ages, we will search for recipes and prepare them in Augusta Raurica's herb kitchen.
In the heart of the Roman town of Augusta Raurica, we set out to reintroduce traditional recipes into our everyday lives. We will see how certain uses run like a common thread throughout history, from ancient times through the Middle Ages to the present. We will study the recipes that have been passed down and use them to make our own products, such as scented balms, incense blends or medicinal poultices, in the herb kitchen.
This course is organised by the Volkshochschule beider Basel, a local adult education institution.
