Enigmatic architecture in Augst

When the French architect Aubert Parent described the “Temple d' Augusta Rauracorum” after his excavations in the Grienmatt around 1800 and reconstructed it in elegant watercolours, he had no idea that the ruins would still pose a mystery 200 years later. The outstanding architectural ensemble, consisting of a temple with an adjoining spa, was undoubtedly one of the most important sanctuaries of Augusta Raurica. We delve into the history of its exploration and pursue unresolved questions.
