The figure depicts a slave carrying a basket of meat and sausages. It is a heavy load for a boy to carry. He is bringing the sausages from the slaughterhouse where he works to the warehouse of a wholesaler on the edge of town.
Shoulder blades of cattle with evidence of butchers’ knives on the ends of the joints. The holes were probably made by meat hooks from which the meat was hung in smokehouses.
