Drop-in

Roman dyeing with natural dyes

Learn about natural dyeing techniques and dye your own cloth or ribbon.

The Romans also adored rich, vibrant colours, ranging from the bright red of madder root to the deep blue of woad, and the distinct purple tones of murex snails. Explore the range of natural textile dyes and find out how people in ancient times dyed their fabrics. You'll also get to create your own colourful keepsake.

Our drop-in session invites visitors to discover, try things out and get hands-on. No booking is required, and people of all ages can participate.
