Experience Roman cuisine: Provincial specialities
Explore the many flavours of Roman food.
The provinces were not only the site of Roman domination, they also had a significant impact on the gastronomy and culture of the Imperium Romanum over the centuries. From Carthaginian bread and spices from the east to beer from the north: cereal porridge, olives, and wine would have been the extent of Roman food without the provinces.
In addition to fascinating historical context, you can expect a buffet of Roman delicacies which we prepare together. We will cook in Augusta Raurica's traditional bakery – using fire and no electricity.
